Nikomachi Karakostanoglou – Boutari
Nikomachi was born and raised in Athens. She studied Business Administration at Athens University of Economics and Business. She continued her studies in London, where she graduated from Chelsea School of Art (B.A. in Public Art) and Wimbledon School of Art (B.A. with honors in Fine Art). During her studies she developed the idea of “Sculpting Space”, a design concept that has underpinned her entire career as an artist and designer. Her methodology consists of using the artistic means of sculpture to design any space by imprinting the client’s personality in it. The design brief arises from a psychographic profiling of the client based on reactions to images and keywords like form, light, color, texture, and atmosphere. By approaching space with a sculptural rather than decorative mind, Nikomachi focuses more on creating an overall space experience than a picture-perfect image.
In 1998 she founds “Sculpting Space”, a design studio where she applies her philosophy on several and diverse design projects. Light, movement, the relentless rhythm of everyday life or moments of silence are examples of the raw materials that inspire her art and design works. She has collaborated with numerous architectural and construction firms and designed turn-key residential and commercial projects including office spaces, hotels and art galleries. All along, her abstract artwork has also evolved in parallel to her applied works. In 2011 she departs for Shanghai. During her three years in China she works on the rebranding and design of dozens of outlets belonging to a leading restaurant group. This intense experience enriched her skillset, as it encompassed branding, graphic design, and social media. Thus the DNA of “Sculpting Space” has evolved to integrate Nikomachi’s solid experience with all contemporary design media into a 360ο creative experience.
